Attractions in Liverpool

Liverpool may be best known to tourists as being the home of The Beatles, but the city has more to offer than just that. Sure, they have many attractions and sights to see for Beatles fans, but there are other things to do and to explore in Liverpool as well. The city is also well known for its maritime industry and boating, and the history of this city is quite interesting, so you may want to pay a visit to a number of museums and historical sites as well.

For fans of The Beatles, a must see is an attraction called The Beatles Story. Here you can tour a museum of Beatles items, learn all about the history of the band, and even bring the kids along to the "Discovery Zone," where they can color pictures of the Fab 4 or rock out to some of the songs. They also offer a "4D" show and, of course, you can buy all of the Beatles merchandise that you want here. Beatles fans might also want to pay a visit to 20 Forthlin Road, childhood home of Paul McCartney, and Mendips, the home of John Lennon. Many bus companies also offer tours of Liverpool with a Beatles theme to make sure you hit all of the major sights.

Liverpool also has a number of interesting museums and art galleries. The Merseyside Maritime Museum is the perfect place to learn all about Liverpool's maritime history, and the International Slavery Museum is an interesting place dedicated to learning about the history of slavery and Africa. Art fans will want to go to the Tate Liverpool for a collection or contemporary art, or the Walker Art Gallery, which has a large variety of different types of art.

There are also two breathtaking cathedrals in Liverpool that are worth a visit - the Liverpool Cathedral and the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral. For more about the town's history, visit several of their castles or ruins. You can see the ruins of Beeston Castle, visit Birkenhead Priory and St Mary's Tower for a taste of what Liverpool was like long ago, or go to Norton Priory Museum and Gardens, where you can tour a full museum full of interesting artifacts.
